It does go dormant a little earlier and doesn't green up as fast as other grasses so I can't use my mower as much as everyone else, oh well! This grass doesn't grow tall fast like other verities, this cuts down on the yard work.
Just got off the phone with them. The plugs aren't Greening up as I expected but it is a little early in season. Customer service was very polite and I know they will honor they're guaranteed if these plugs don't grow as expected.
This grass is not miracle grass, you will need to know how to grow grass and have the time to keep it watered. If you keep it moist it will grow, if you don't take the time to do that then don't blame it on Zoysia Farm.
So there is a rule of thumb with Zoysia, 1st year it sleeps, 2nd year it creeps and 3rd year it leaps. I planted 300 plugs last year watered, fertilized as instructed. This year its been a little slow to come out of dormancy, but holy cow. In the last week those little plugs from last year look amazing. Now I need more because I'm not patient enough. Take care of the plugs when you first plant them and be patient! Zoysia takes years, but its well worth it!
My yard is better than a golf course by far, and some people that walk by take their shoes of and step on it to see if it is real.
The only reason their grass doesn't take is people lack of commitment. I redid my entire front yard, orded 6000 plugs and planted them about 4-6 inches apart. Watered twice a day, liquid fertilizer every two weeks and after two weeks or so new grass stared to shoot up. Year 1 the plugs main job is to get established and root, you won't see many shoots growing out. Year 2 the grass shoots start to take off and by the end of year 2 they filled in pretty well. I'm currently in year 3 and I LOVE my front yard. It's to the point where I'm pulling plugs out and establishing zoysia in my side yard and eventually in my back yard. Once you make plugs, the grass will go into shock, turn brown and then come back just like when you plant your original pluggs. IF PEOPLE BABY THE PLUGS IN THE BEGINNING UNTIL THEY ROOT YOULL BE REWARED FOR YOUR HARD WORK. I'm telling you this is a fact I've got pictures and the front yard to prove it!
Also, buy the super plugs, they have a bigger chance of growing and are easier to plant and do a soil test for the correct pH balance because it will be a waste of time if you have crappy soil conditions!
Have 80-90% come back from the winter and are growing well. Watered as they said and used fertilizer I bought from site 1 in fall and twice in spring and early summer. About ready to do again. I used 2x2 plugs.
The trick is to use their liquid fertilizer, granular will burn it because the grass gets so thick that the fertilizer will sit on top of the grass. I use Zoysia Farm fertilizer ONLY and very seldom.
Key ingredients are WATER & correct SOIL pH balance.
I have ordered plugs several times and only had a problem once where they didn't grow. They were replaced with ones that grew just fine! Some people just don't know how to grow grass or spend the time it takes to get it going. I live in Colorado where Zoisia is not highly recommend for this grass because it takes time for the temperature to get hot enough for it and it doesn't like shade. The hotter the better!
